Yes, you are absolutely correct if you guessed it is me setting in the virtual office of Obama in second life. After I have read some of the rumor which says linden lab will be sold for microsoft, I was searching for any information in secondlife, and by chance I discovered a sim called the united states of America, where there was a building for a lot of brand names, including google building.  I will come back to that google building as it has some interesting information. Okey, the virtual white house, it is not a great building, it is supposed to be for an avatar called: “BarackObama Burnstein” search him, is it the real president playing SL in his spare time? Answere: I highly doubt! then why do I blog this? It is just interesting, and as well, the place is full of information about white house, Barak Obama, and most of important presidents of second life. Apparently, while the Swedish government decided to build a formal embassy in second life, someone decided to build an unofficial sim about USA. The building is not that great at all thought, but again, it is full of information, and it has a sense of humor.

In that google building in front of virtual white house, there were information from someone who looks like s/he works in microsoft. A lot of information acutally, may be the most interesting information I have read was the webGL browser.. and html5, it is a type of technology which is still a work in progress, will allow us to run 3D applications like secondlife from our browsers. Yes, that means a 3rd party web based client like Ajax will have the ability to run avatars too on web without any need to download a single plugin!

This article is meant to say as well, there is no information told about owning secondlife by Microsoft, there are a lot of brands in that sim, and a lot of real life business in second life, but no, Microsoft isn’t there, it even  doesn’t own a single 512×512 land in the grid, and I even highly doubt they know what second life is.

I think I will hang out there a lot.. not only to snap pictures, but as well to relax, and check the details of this building while I imagine fantasy stories. The Place is a very good building done by Grey Kurka. The textures are detailed, it is save to snap wind light photos here, without a need for shadows feature, however a client with shadows will make this place look more realstic – check my Monica meeting pictures – however I decided for this sky setting I made to not use shadows, the reason is simple, I think shadows could disturb this DOF I made, and as well, I think the builder has put some good shadows in the textures already. Well, I recommend this place for you.

I hear a lot of people in the fashion socitey are talking about your latest show in second life, tell me why it is so different in your opinion?

well it is different because we made an art performance, a fashion experience, an emotional an emotional voyage, more than a traditional sl fashion show.

So, since not everyone reads my blog is a fashion expert, let me learn about your own definition of the “traditional SL fashion show”?

Well usually you have models walking on the catwalk…posing…and that’s all.
While we decided to have part of the public audience as  part of the scene it self, they were dressed with our costumes…a friend performing a Dark King on top of this army…and our models acting, being demons, visions, very expressive. Even the set was thought to be something to let the mind play, the music was involved, so did art thanks to Rusch Raymaker artworks

So did you design the show, or Avenu agency did that for you?

I already had a quite clear concept in mind and the stage design. The mood of the show too, of course.  They were wonderful in understanding me and collaborate to make this just perfect; the modeling side of the show was just stunning, with a dramatic choreography, the music, the work of PR.

What is the relation between your fashion designs in second life and your real life?

I think what I put in my SL designs is whatever captured my eye &  soul in RL,  sooner or later it goes to one of my sl fashion designs; like a painting or something that made me say *wow! It’s an interaction.

Also, often I draw them rl before building them in sl.

What inspired you this year the most?

This year i was very influenced by Goth, I’d say. I am a goth lover since forever, but until  now I didn’t dare to put much of it inside my traditional designs. This year with BlackLabel I unleashed my goth, wild, visionary side.

Do you prefer if you were a real life fashion designer?

ah! no, I am happy like that; I am happy to be a clothes maker in Secondlife, and to have my dream for real life.

In real life, I would love to be a concept artist. Or an illustrator. Or both.

In your opinion, why big real life names like Giorgio Armani, Lacost, and others didn’t stay for long in Second Life?

Probably they did not live in the community; it’s not just about putting some clothes out. It’s to be aware of this community moods, trends, behaviors.

Second thing is…to me, to make clothes in sl is not so similar to make them in rl. Here, you need to know about photoshop, 3D; and not about how a fabric wraps in real life.

So the quality of second life clothes is more ( please consider I said more ) about how good the rendering is, not about how creative the idea is?

No, but i think it’s very different from real life fashion, and I will tell you the reasons.. when you make something for real life, I guess you consider: the amount of fabric you can sew, the body that has to stay inside it, the craft a dress requires, basically.  You need the knowledge of what is possible to make
Same goes for SL. For an example, how I realize this ruffle I wear now? Didn’t I make it as sculpted prim? then i must be aware that it will not be a flex. I had another option though, which is to paint it as a texture and put it in a flex prim. As you see, you  have here to resonate in 2 different ways, when You do it.

About the rendering point: I think that a good idea, rendered in a bad way,  is not a good idea.
But also, a cool render of an awful idea doesn’t make it cool.
It’s a question of balance i guess.

Are you using templates, purchased textures, or sclupties for your designs?

No, I make everything from scratch.

You know there are shops which sell nothing but modified open source templates, in the same market your stuff are sold  in? What do you think about them?

Yes I know.  Handmade textures vs templates? It’s like a oil painting against a kid’s lineout…those kid books that you color.

I believe that at the end, the love and care shows. I don’t sell just a texture or a prim. I sell a concept with a dress. I sell a feeling,  a mood.
A woman can wear my gown and think * yes this is how i want to feel*

Does it bother you when you see a blogger who blogged your hand made clothes, is blogging another brand which has done nothing but downloading a PSD file from xstreetsl  ( or the secondlife marketplace ) and changed the colors then uploaded it,  both of you are in same blog beside each others?

No I am not bothered by it. I have a big respect of the customers and I think they are perfectly able to *feel the difference*

So what did second life fashion design add to your real life?

It adds the learning voyage; it brings practice with line, values, sense of design. It allowed me to see &  admire the real life fashion design, and to see the art behind it.

Since you were a deviant in past: Did you try to collab with other designers, like how deviantart photo manipulators are collaborating?

I think i never did,  sometimes I can be influenced by friends.

For an example,  the ankh necklace which you made, and you were selling in your old store, is what inspired me to make this dress I wear now. but I never have a real official collaboration.

So which is better, deviantART or secondlife?

secondlife is not an art community
It’s a virtual community. A little enviro.
with its own great freedom and its own limits.

It is not a game too. A game doesn’t involve your personality so much; or well it should not.

I think it’s the future;  I wait for when we will have gloves and eyeglasses at our home…sitting comfy…and experiencing taste and smell and all from home

I am a geek yeah lol

You ever thought to post screenshots of your designs in deviantART.com>fashion category?

no. I left deviantart years ago and I a not planning to post in the near future; at least for the moment. I love to be just a pixel doll. Not mixing rl and sl.
And no, not because of an *I dont share my rl* mission.

It’s more because I am  interested to see how this pixel doll is evolving, and how she’s developing a personality that is not the usual me. Maybe, in the future, I will experience more also in the virtual art field. Or maybe I just go ahead as Monica Outlander.

I like the fact of…of how i am kinda sublimated in this creature. It’s interesting.

My only problem is time, it is never enough for the ideas in my head.

Sonia28 Jie the owner of Son!a Luxury Fashion store, has designed her dress, jewellery & hair. When I asked her about her rules of style ” I like formal wear in general, classy yet sexy look.. and every dress needs to have the right accessories, regarding hair i like updos they emphasize the lady’s face and bare shoulders” she said “I prefer skins with hairbases, and now with the tattoo layer available almost any skin can be worn, personally i like the innocent face look not so over done features and the body should look even and anatomically correct”..

Being the designer of your own clothes makes it easier for you to create the perfect look for second life?

There are tons of perfect looks in SL, i think i contribute in helping my clients finding their perfect look. of course RL or SL many times we don’t what we want until we see it, by offering different styles the lady can choose to build her look from shape to accessories, after all SL is all about visuals and the way the lady wants to present herself will guide her through her shopping path and that applies to real life as well.

sonia winks

So your style in RL is just the same as it is in SL?

Each event has its own dress code, fashion in SL is more important in SL, it is affordable and there is a wide range to choose from, but for example for a RL formal event I would definitely choose a dress similar to the one i wear in SL.

I know u are a RL designer too, did You ever consider building any of your RL items in SL, or vice versa,  an item you own in SL that you may make it in RL too?

My work in RL is very simple i do sportswear that involves jeans tshirts and sweaters, while in SL I design mainly formals and wedding dresses. I might think of creating my SL designs in RL not the other way around, although that will need a big budget.

What are your best footwears?

Sandals of course with sculpted feet, and boots.. classic pumps and stilettos.

An advice for other fashion victims ladies?

Have fun shopping but above all have fun wearing them.

I like how “serra Qendr” mixed between traditional abstract, and some elements from the post modern life, like the pop-art typography and that funny cartoonish character in pink. Painting wise while the forms and shapes are quite different they still mix in shiny colors, it is a collection of crowded forms but emerging. They are crashing, but mixing.. they in a mess, but a perfect one! someone has filled the opening party with bubbles, so i thought to let some of them enter my picture if you don’t mind. This exhibition reminds me of “Where Good Ideas Come From Video”

about 15 years ago, photoshop was a only even only known by experts, nowadays, it is like every one in the world knows photoshop, and a lot of SL residents knows how to use it. I heared in 2000s about the open source graphics softwares which are alternatives of photoshop and adobe illustrator. One of them would be inkscape, a strong open source, free software which I predict for it to be as well known as PS, in few years to come. It helps you to make vector graphics in same quality of a software like adobe illustrator. Someone here is giving scudled free lessons in this software and he even helps you to learn how to use it for second life. His name is vwanweb Falconer.

I am very happy with how the psychologist Dr Kerley managed to organize this place, someone really brought his real life job and knowledge to second life.  It is not a fancy place when it comes to terms of decoration but this is not just a virtual presentation of Dr Kerley’s real life clinic. It is as well a real clinic, you can visit him here and have a real therapy in SL! Dr. Kerley placed on wall a lot of certificates , his USA license, some interesting bookse, note card givers about how to gain positive mental health. One note card has described why this cyber theapy could work in SL! I will paste part of it here, another note card is describing the book “Emotional intelligence: why it can matter more than IQ” which is another very interesting subject.

Visit Dr Donald Craig Kerley Virtual Clinic in Second Life here.

He wrote in one of note cards about cyber therapy (picked):

Avatar-based Cybertherapy provides a virtual approximation of traditional face-to-face therapy available in cyberspace.  Through the use of Secondlife you are able to meet with me in a virtual face-to-face manner in a virtual office.  Avatar-based Cybertherapy provides a relatively anonymous method of interacting with a therapist.  While current communication in Secondlife is limited to typed chat conferences, voice chat is expected to be offered in the very near future.

Many people find it easier to express their feelings when writing.

Many find it easier to remember specific incidents when putting it in written form. Many people find it easier to open up using this method, as they are not the focus of attention while discussing their concerns, as with traditional therapy. You have greater control over the pace of treatment than with traditional face-to face therapy. There is no need for weekly scheduling to assure an appointment. You can send concerns as they occur.  Therefore, therapy can be sought out on any day or at any time.
